Between a full time job, a Master’s degree, and planning a wedding, my days are packed lately. Time management is key, because I often find myself running out of it. Before I get into how I manage my time, I will say that the one thing that ALWAYS works for me is a good, old fashioned daily planner. I am constantly making to-do lists and rearranging when things are going to be done, and my planner (similar here) helps with all of this. I also am a HUGE fan of Google Calendars. I have each topic color coded and can clearly prioritize tasks or activities.

Let’s jump into my day, shall we?!

4 am-4:30 am

Time to get up! I actually have an alarm set for 4:40 am, but I tend to wake up naturally before it goes off. I don’t always move very quickly in the mornings, so I like to make myself a cup of tea and ease into the day. I got a facial massager for Christmas and I am 100% obsessed with it (thx The Skinny Confidential).

5:30 am

Head to work. I try to get into work early because it gives me a chance to review what needs to be done that day. Although random things seem to always come up, it helps to have an idea of what the day will look like. I should note that Outlook runs my life at work but I use it similarly to Google Calendar. It’s…..you guessed it….color coded.

3:30 pm

Go home! I start early, so my day ends much earlier than many others with a typical ‘9-5′ job.

4:30 pm

Work out. I quickly stop at home, change, and say hi to Brandon before heading to Burn. (See my blog post on my favorite workout here). I try (keyword TRY) to make it 3-4 days a week, but that doesn’t always happen. If I don’t head to Burn I always try to walk Lola to have some time away from a screen.

5:45 pm

Get home, make dinner, small cleaning tasks, etc. This is really my flex time where I try to catch up on anything around the house. I like to do small chores each day so things don’t build up for the weekends. Who wants to spend all weekend cleaning and running errands? Not my favorite.

7 pm

Back to the computer. Most of the time I work on my Master’s program at night. I have to write at least one paper a week and have a few smaller assignments depending on the course. There are times where I will catch up on work or write a blog post too. These days it’s mostly time for homework or wedding research. I also look at my planner for the next day to make sure I’m prepped.

9 pm

As soon as the clock hits 9PM I put my phone on do not disturb. A hot cup of tea comes next, and sometimes earlier, if I can pry myself away from the computer. I always rinse off in the shower right before I go to bed (my fave body wash is here– I actually bought it for Brandon but I’m obsessed) and spend a little extra time on my skin. Dr. Dennis Gross peel pads (another shoutout to The Skinny Confidential) have become a crucial part of my skincare regimen.

Once I get in bed, I read or watch something on Netflix. Not the best habit, but it definitely helps me unwind. Currently I am rewatching The Crown; there are SO many details I missed the first time!

10:30 pm

If I am not asleep by now the next morning is going to be rough.

Other time management tips?

  • Phone calls in the car. I always catch up with my parents or other family members when I’m driving. Once I get to my destination, I can focus on the next task. — ONLY IF YOU HAVE HANDS-FREE BLUETOOTH 🙂
  • Focus on one thing at a time. Multitasking is great, but it’s better to check one thing off your list that’s 100% perfect, rather than try and tackle 5 things at a time and get a mediocre result.
